After having eaten a parrot, the house cat of a Sephardic Rabbi in Algiers gains the ability to speak. From now on, the cat no longer spends his days playing with the Rabbi’s daughter Zlabya, instead he’s compelled to study Torah and learn for his Bar Mitzvah. Clever and opinionated, the cat engages in discussions with the Rabbi and everyone he meets and doesn’t shy back from sharing his views on the Talmud and religion. When a Jewish refugee from Russia is discovered in a wooden box otherwise filled with religious scriptures, another adventure arises. Now, the Rabbi and his cat embark on a journey to the centre of Africa, where the Russian man hopes to find the old Israeli city of Jerusalem. Based on Joann Sfar’s Comic-Strip by the same name.
