Mighty sculptures containing highly concentrated strength, two choreographers electrified by this, dancers with the ability to translate what is contained in the stone figures, and a director with the talent to capture it all on film. A success with the audience in 2020 at the Oslo Museum of Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland has now been turned into moving images by Jonas Åkerlund: a series of dance pieces by choreographers Damien Jalet from Belgium and Erna Ómarsdóttir from Iceland, who have previously collaborated on such impressive pieces as Black Marrow and Transaquania. He is known for his choreographies in Luca Guadagnino’s feature film Suspiria, among other things, while she is famous for explosive dance and voice performances. Åkerlund’s film shows how the two of them release their energies amid Vigeland’s sculptural work.
With an artist talk with Damien Jalet and Viennale director Eva Sangiorgi.
