Around 20,000 people from Latin America and the Caribbean live in Vienna today. Active in many areas of urban life, they contribute to the city’s cultural landscape in diverse ways.

This exhibition draws on a large-scale EU-funded research project (CERV Programme) that has collected migration experiences from these communities since 1945. Encounters, participation, and dialogue formed its core. People from around twenty countries, across generations and life paths, shared their stories through interviews, photographs, documents, textile works, and guided walks through the city. The result is a multi-voiced archive that adds new perspectives to Vienna’s historical memory.

The exhibition makes these materials accessible to a wider audience. Its chapters explore life between different worlds, the preservation of cultural roots, and the experience of beginning again in a new environment. They also map places significant to Latin American–Caribbean communities in Vienna and reflect the thoughts and emotions that arise from shared yet deeply personal migration histories.
