Tao Ye / TAO Dance Theater (CN) 13 & 14

Bodies transform into rocks, mountains and water, the figures on stage are media of constant transformation. For this evening’s two pieces from their Numerical Series, 13 and 14, the TAO Dance Theater from Beijing was awarded the Silver Lion of the Venice Biennale two years ago. Numbers suffice as names for these works with a distinct emphasis on dance, because there is more to the movements, the music and the costumes specially created for each piece than titles can say. In 13, the complexity of the group fascinates, and in 14, the rhythm takes the audience to an exhilarating realm of colours.
