Sorour Darabi / DEEPDAWN – FROM THE THROAT TO THE DAWN
© Clara Schleiffer, Bone festival Bern
“In the brutal light of day, I’d never achieve this heavenly nakedness”, writes French author Hélène Cixous. In FROM THE THROAT TO THE DAWN, Sorour Darabi, too, explores the night as a space of refuge and resistance: to the sound of a harp, the Iranian performance artist emerges as Scheherazade, the king’s daughter from One Thousand and One Nights, who, night after night, escapes her murder through her father by telling stories. Making his way through the audience, Darabi reveals “a landscape that is not visible in the light” (Darabi).
