Solo exhibition Erste Bank MEHRWert Kunstpreis 2018 „One Day You Will Miss Me“ with Julia Gaisbacher
Opening: September 29, 2018 | 19:00
Exhibition duration: September 25 – October 27, 2018
In "One Day You Will Miss Me" (2017-) Julia Gaisbacher deals with the transformation of the Belgrade district Savamala by the enormous real estate development project „Belgrade on Water" by the Eagle Hill Group headquartered in Abu Dhabi. Due to its large surface and the building of several high-rise towers, the construction project represents an enormous intervention in the cityscape. The historically grown residential quarter as well as the old harbor and railway station district will be replaced by office and residential complexes for the upper middle class. The artist deals photographically with the resulting urban displacement processes.
The photographs and a video which are presented together with the text „Eagle Hills Vertigo“ by Barbi Marković express the discrepancy between the living situation of the residents and the lifestyle advertised on the billboards of the construction project. Furthermore, the context of the realization of the construction project and the clashing opposites are shown: luxury apartments and displaced population as well as plastered billboards and demolished buildings.
The project was awarded with the Erste Bank MEHRWert Kunstpreis 2018.
