Njola Impressions Kitezzi

Ugandan artist Nabukenya Allen’s installation Kiteezi takes a devastating landslide at the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala as its point of departure. In August 2024, the city’s main waste disposal site collapsed, destroying homes and claiming lives.

From the aftermath of this catastrophe emerged unexpected figures of resilience: the boda boda riders, Kampala’s motorbike taxi drivers, a group often misunderstood and marginalized. In Allen’s work, rubbish becomes a language of renewal. Kiteezi invites reflection on what societies discard, while revealing creativity in resilience and dignity in survival.
