Born 1955 in São Paulo, Ismael Ivo, ImPulsTanz co-founder and celebrated choreographer, dancer and teacher, became one of the best-known dancers in the world and an icon of Afro-Brazilian emancipation. He established strong artistic bonds with Johann Kresnik, Marcia Haydée, Ushio Amagatsu, George Tabori, Koffi Kôkô and many others and made history as the initiator and director of institutions, at last the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo. In interviews, memories of companions, photo essays by Anno Wilms and Dieter Blum and an extensive catalog raisonné, the life and work of this exceptional artist and human is on full display for the first time. Presented by Johannes Odenthal and accompanied by artistic contributions by Wim Vandekeybus and the Brazilian percussionist Dudu Tucci.
