Which forms and strategies of collective practice do women artists choose today? How are these reflected in their artistic work, and what distinguishes collectively developed art? The exhibition explores ways of cooperation and related feminist and political questions. It is also conceived as a platform for communication and exchange with the women artists involved about the processes of their collaborative practice. How do they balance the tension between the challenges of working collaboratively and their individual artistic interests while being confronted with pressing societal and everyday needs? Including artists, who have worked collectively for years, as well as temporary and loose collaborations, the exhibition examines the aesthetic and political potential of artistic collaborations as well as their inherent complicity.

„Vulkanische Aue“ by Karine Fauchard

Karine Fauchard’s work centers around the laws of painting, the choice of materials and their treatment, their interrelation and accompanying effects. For her solo exhibition in das weisse haus, realized as part of the Erste Bank ExtraVALUE Art Award Vienna 2019, the artist has developed a site-specific installation in combination with the eponymous series "Vulkanische Aue". The defining element of these paintings is the motif of the arch, which is composed, assembled, rearranged over and again, and complemented by a wide range of materials – remains of paper and cardboard, transparent sheets, broken eggshells, coloured tapes, impasto colours – like applying a mathematical or alchemistic formula. Small, unfired clay works, referring to architectural details, cover parts of the floor like a sculptural ornament, they play with the spatial conditions and give the installation a new temporality – with "Vulkanische Aue" Karine Fauchard presents an expansive, ephemeral painting, that interacts with the space and the recipients.
