Millions of rueful hearts have sought new hope in the song Ne me quitte pas since 1959, the year Brussels-born singer Jacques Brel first recorded it. Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker is so fascinated by the superstar of the 1950s and 1960s that she has dedicated her latest piece to him in a collaboration with up-and-coming dancer Solal Mariotte. The two of them want to know: How does Jacques Brel’s artistic legacy affect today’s audiences over the distance of more than half a century, and how can his music and his intense stage presence come alive again?
