In Verena Dengler's work, painting is always a medium alongside others, embedded in intricate narrative installations in which different narrative strands are found in spatial situations. The exhibition in the STRABAG Artlounge now presents an overview of the various ways in which the artist has approached this "supreme discipline" and questioned her status within art history so far. Many of the works can be seen in Austria for the first time. The STRABAG Artaward International has been able to fulfill the long-cherished wish of the artist: a trip to Spitsbergen in summer 2018. The timeliness of climate change and the energy transition is particularly noticeable there; Disused coal mines stand like ruins in the coarse landscape and the dramatic glacial melt changes nature and brings dangers such as landslides with it. In sketches and watercolors, including on a novel synthetic paper that lets the colors dry on the surface, their impressions of the polar summer are recorded.
