NAWA Festival - organized by the theatre Nestroyhof Hamakom in cooperation with the nawa music & film festival.
Festival for Music and Film at the Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom
NAWA is the Vienna music festival dedicated to the music and short film creations of contemporary artists from North Africa and West Asia. Beyond folklore, traditionalism, and ethnic separation, the NAWA Music & Film Festival offers a transcultural platform for contemporary art. NAWA stands for the abbreviation North Africa & West Asia, and the word in Arabic and Persian also means, among other things, song, melody, and sound.
The founder and organizer of the festival, which is taking place for the second time this year at the Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom, is the outstanding composer and musician Mahan Mirarab. The high-caliber lineup includes international guests such as Kiran Ahluwalia and Rez Abbasi from NYC and Tara Mehrad from Paris. The festival's finale will be opulent with the traditional final concert of the NAWA Orchestra.
