The "Berserker" among the great choreographers for the theater, Johann Kresnik, turns 80 this year. And in addition to his artistic class, this is another good occasion to bring one of his great pieces back to the stage of Vienna’s Volkstheater. Because – if you’re looking for a prime example of the phrase “visually overwhelming” – the expression applies precisely to Johann Kresnik’s dance theatre "Macbeth". This is due to Gottfried Helnwein’s sensational set and costumes as well as Kresnik’s forceful choreographic play and Kurt Schwertsik’s breathtaking music. "Macbeth" by Compagnie TANZLIN.Z directed by Mei Hong Lin is an artistic reawakening of the original from 1988. The story of the dubious career and mysterious death (in 1987) of German politician Uwe Barschel is turned into a Shakespearean swansong to megalomania.
