Cowbirds joins Negotiations at the TQW Filiale

Dance and polyphonic singing: The Vienna-based singing collective cowbirds joins in the Negotiations at the Tanzquartier subsidiary. Their voices weave into the movements of the dancers and create a communal space with harmonies and dissonances. The labour of their voices becomes audible when the four women embark upon this durational concert, stretching over eight hours a day.

COWBIRDS - Clélia Colonna, Irene Coticchio, Caroline Decker, Rotraud Kern is a Vienna-based collective dealing with traditional forms and structures of traditional singing from Corsica and Sicily since 2013. Coming from the contemporary dance & performance scene, they explore the potential of polyphonic singing and create different formats of presentation; live sound installations, concerts, participatory performances.

They focus on bringing together traditional music with new music and contemporary performance. The collective also engages in regular exchange with singers and musicians from Corsica and Sicily. In 2018, cowbirds released its first album, polyphonic tracks – a fictional field recording made in collaboration with Nik Hummer.
