Group exhibition “Camera Lucida”

Published in 1980, Camera Lucida is undeniably one of the most relevant books about the photographic medium. This exhibition with the same title will showcase a series of artworks arranged in a specific temporal order. It is through this choreographed succession of works and their consequently impermanence on site that Roland Barthes' book will be visually and poetically revisited. Shaped in the form of an audiovisual essayistic exhibition, the show "Camera Lucida" aims to function as a new way of reading Barthes’ text, a reading that could be described as deconstructed, fractured, or distracted, similarly addressing our contemporary modes of apprehending visual and textual information.

This experimental exhibition will present reproductions and documentations of artworks by Ignasi Aballí, Helena Almeida, William Anastasi, Claudia Angelmaier, Maria Anwander, Fayçal Baghriche, Jeremy Deller, Alicia Eggert, Claire Fontaine, Ana Frechilla, Cristina Garrido, Irene Grau, Tae-Bum Ha, Kiluanji Kia Henda, David Horvitz, Pierre Huyghe, William E. Jones, Kurt Kren, Ben Long, Lucia Nimcová, Tatzu Nishi, Nils Nova, Mike Parr, Sreshta Rit Premnath, Pilvi Takala, Penelope Umbrico, et al.

Group exhibition "Republished: Questioning Boundaries"

Reproducing, re-examining, redefining as well as questioning, changing, setting up and interpreting content are the strategies that the exhibition "Republished: Questioning Boundaries" deals with. The show presents artists' books that manipulate already published material and place it in a new context through a variety of interventions.
The participating artists create works based on literature classics such as "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad and "The Transformation" by Franz Kafka, on an atlas from the French colonial period or on an erotic novel from the 1950s. Depending on the content and genre of the original publication, the works displayed in the exhibition relate to topics such as colonialism, sexual agency, parallel worlds or artistic publications and, at the same time, explore the boundaries of the book as an artistic medium. Both artists’ books and accompanying pieces inspired by them (drawings, video or sound) will be displayed together in the form of an installation.

With Mimi Cabell, Oscar Cueto, Claudia de la Torre, Enrico Floriddia, Jochen Höller, Jason Huff, Michalis Pichler, Stephanie Syjuco, Gregor Weichbrodt.
Curated by Aline Lenzhofer (graduate das weisse haus).
Supported by phileas - a fund for contemporary art.

As an art association we do not charge an entrance fee, but we thank you for donations.
