Shaped by the Labyrinth
Jiajia Qi will introduce Arakawa and Madeline Gins architectural procedure and philosophical theories, and discuss how to combine Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921) with Arakawa and Gins’s Architectural Body (2002). This in order to analyze the meaning of perception and to rethink her own research thesis Shaped by the Labyrinths (2018). Jiajia Qi will as well talk on her work The Visible Distance, created during the residency in Advance Contemporary Museum, Changsha, China. When the audience enters the “empty” space, they feel the contradiction between the abstract distance and concrete visual experience. So the questions Qi poses are “What is far?” and “What is close?”
